About This Event
On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, Student Welfare, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in collaboration with Dr. O.P. Bhalla Foundation, organized impactful activities to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainability. These initiatives reflected our collective commitment to restoring ecosystems, reducing pollution and nurturing a greener planet.
A Sapling Plantation Drive was carried out across the lush green spaces of MRIIRS to enhance campus biodiversity and promote environmental stewardship. The initiative was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, MRIIRS; Dr. Deepender Jha, Vice Chancellor, MRU and Shri Ramesh Nair, Registrar, MRU in the esteemed presence of Heads of Departments, Deans and faculty members. Saplings were planted with enthusiastic participation from students and volunteers of Student Welfare and Dr. O.P. Bhalla Foundation. The drive contributed meaningfully to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by addressing climate change and supporting biodiversity conservation.
An insightful webinar on the topic “Microplastics: The Invisible Threat in Our Water and Food” was conducted via Zoom to deepen understanding of the environmental and health hazards posed by microplastics. The session was led by Mrs. Jui M. Pandharipande Sahastrabuddhe, a renowned environmentalist, Founder of Info-Enviro Studies & Research Centre (Nagpur), Rajya Sabha Fellow 2024 and Non-Official Member of the MoEF & CC Regional Committee. Participants gained valuable insights into the widespread impact of microplastics on ecosystems and human well-being, along with actionable strategies to reduce the use of single-use plastics. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, encouraging dynamic interaction. This initiative contributed to SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting environmental literacy and advocating for sustainable consumption practices.
In addition to these activities, an ongoing student-led initiative called #GreenWheels was also launched. Through this campaign, students are encouraged to use public transportation and upload selfies during their eco-friendly commutes, promoting sustainable travel habits and reducing individual carbon footprints.
The enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members of MRIIRS has truly paved the way for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for all.
